Show off your roosters

This was my beautiful boy Napoleon, I had him for four and a half years. He was one of my original 8 chicks that started me on my chicken journey :) he passed this summer. He was so brave, he fought hawks, humans, dogs, the works, to defend his ladies. I miss him so so so much. He was the most selfless creature I’ve ever known, and will always have a special place in my heart.

And this is my new rooster, Uriah :) I got him last month, now he’s 8 months old, from a lady who had too many roosters (she loved them all so much though). He’s super handsome and has a funny personality. His dad died fighting a fox (no hens were harmed thanks to him). He’s still figuring out his place in my flock so it’s funny to watch him tiptoe around the big hens and chase the pullets (not being mean, they’re not afraid of him and actually they hang out together a lot and eat together. He lets them pick the food off his beak  ). Today he saw the new chicks in the run and RAN over to check on things, and growled when they started fighting

There are more. A lot more  So glad I’m not the only one with a ridiculous amount of roosters and cockerels :)
Oh my goodness, I LOVE their names! Snack pack is my favorite!!! 😂

Aw, I'm sorry about Napoleon. He was gorgeous and sounded like a great boy. His comb is crazy! Lol
Is Uriah a Orpington? He's stunning. Im sure he'll be a great new leader. He has a lot to live up to, lol.

I have 5 boys, 1 rooster and 4 cockerels. At least I'm doing pretty good compared to you guys! Lol!
I might be down to 4 soon though.

Just gave me a nasty bite on my hand this evening. So... He might be soup when he's a bit bigger. Lol

Yes his comb was huge! Every other day during the winter I had to run Vaseline or vitamin E on it because it would get super dry and cracked, and he got frostbite so bad one year—his wattles were literally solid. After that he always had to be inside the coop with a heat lamp when it was below 32 degrees. I was so in tune with the temperature

He is part marans and part Cochin, although I’ve had some people tell me he looks like an Orpington, but the lady who gave him to me seemed pretty knowledgeable and the brother of Uriah’s dad was definitely a cochin. Thank you! And yes he does, but he’s doing a good job so far, considering his age and newness in the flock.
