Show Quality chickens vs pet quality chickens

Does anyone raise both show chickens and pet chickens? And have photos they can share . I was wondering the differences and how you care for them.

I don't have any photos on hand, but I raise them together. Around the time the yearly show comes up, I separate my show chickens and give them a bit of extra protein.

That’s great, do you do selective breeding yourself ? And which breed

Pet chickens are normally mixed breeds.
I bought the APA (American Poultry Association) standard of perfection so I could compare my birds and decide which ones would make better show quality birds.
The best quality birds normally come from hatcherys, not from the local pet store.

The more you order, the more you can compare.

I go with Colombian Wyandottes, RIRs and Ameraucanas. Let me see if I have a pic of my new show roo.

I also raise Barred Rocks, but not for show.

Most hatcheries don’t sell show quality birds- they’re production/hatchery quality.

Yes, most of the birds I got from a hatchery were NOT show quality.
I finally ordered some from a hatchery that sells them to 4H kids and I got a few good ones.

I think if you wanted to you could probably breed your own line of show chickens
