Hey all,
I am looking to get some chicks this spring. The problem is that I need show quality, because they only way we can have chickens is if they are shown. I live right around La Crosse, WI. Does anyone know anybody around there who would have chicks? Thanks!

Do you have an idea of what breeds you might want? Do you want large fowl or bantam?
Show quality birds will be coming from a breeder, and most breeders focus on a narrow list of breeds, so knowing what you want is key in identifying a breeder to suggest.
Alternatively, a good step is to attend a poultry show near you (they are more common than most people think and generally not too hard to find one within a reasonable distance) so you can see a lot of breeds and network with a lot of breeders to figure out what you want and who you want tyo get birds from.

There may be hatcheries that sell show quality, but are likely to be smaller hatcheries. For example, in my state - OH, I will be picking up some chicks soon from a smaller hatchery. It is certified and has been in business for a long time (close to 100 years, I think), and sells chickens, ducks, turkeys, and pheasants, etc. A few of their offerings are listed as "Exhibition Quality breeds", but the rest are not. I found this hatchery through a search of NPIP hatcheries in my state. When I spoke with them, they indicated they often work with 4-H kids for show quality birds, and I have seen them mentioned as providing birds that often win in competition. Most likely you'll be able to find a similar source of show quality birds close to you, with a hardiness for your area.

What is the name of this hatchery?

Eagles Nest (Oceola, OH). This will be my first time getting chicks from them, so I don't have personal experience yet. Their catalogue indicates that their show quality chickens are: Black Jersey Giant, Dark Brown Leghorn, and their Bantams. They sell other chickens too (including production types), but those are not noted as exhibition quality. Looks like all their heritage turkeys, and most of their ducks and geese (including bantam ducks) are noted as exhibition quality according to their catalogue.

I do have to say I have a very hard time taking them seriously as producing exhibition quality birds when they choose to use the oh so awful "Americana" label for their Easter Eggers. There is exhibition quality for 4H/FFA and and there is true years of time invested developing a line of standard of perfection showbird
