Ok I posted a topic about how to show a silkie last week. Now I gave my hen a bath and was wondering if everyone who shows can critiqe her for me. She is just about 3 years old. Do you all think she is show quality.

Thank You,

Can you get a picture of her comb??? Just pull the feathers back it looks a likke light in the pictures but it could be the shadow or lighting!

And could you pull the wing from the body and get a picture of the wing to!

If those two things are good then you'll have you a show bird

She has nice type over all but you will have to try to get that yellowness out! you could get marked for it!

I agree - yellowness needs to come out - find some of the dog whitening shampoo and use a toothbrush of the shampoo rubbing from skin tip of feathers to get it concentrated on the problem areas (head, chin, and feet it seems to be main areas) let it sit a few minutes then rinse - but I wouldn't do this for another week or so after this past bath.

Comb, wing, and good side profile picture are best to get the best feedback with.

She looks good though! I'm hoping my littlest babies turn out that pretty!

from the photos wings are good and comb is good! I would say take her to a show this fall and see what a judge thinks about her!!! A bird looks totally different in person then in a picture! But I think she would do just fine!

Thank you for your honest opinion. Ok now how do I get rid of the yellow because I bathed her with dog/ cat witening shampoo let it sit and it did not work on her face or feet only on her body. Can I use dawn dishwashing soap on her? Would that hurt her?

Dont use dishwashing soap it strips the oils really bad!!! I would use a whitening horse shampoo because the whitening is stronger!!! I would bath her about 3 times about a week apart before her show the third time being two days before the show!!! I would try some tide laundry detergent with bleach alternitive and only use about 2 tablespoons maybe three her first two times! just mix it up in the water dont put directly on the bird! keep pouring the water on her and let her soak for about 10 minutes then finish up!

The water will feel a little slimy with the tide in it but it adds moisture in the birds feathers!!! after you drain your water rinse under a facet to get all the suds out!
