I was wondering what others think of my Lavender Orpington Rooster? He's a year old, my first one. I was thinking of entering him at the VA State Fair in the fall. Thanks!

He is gorgeous. :love

IMHO... no show experience here... he has too much cream colored leakage and the grey tips on his comb might knock him. Something seem not quite right about his eye and I can't zoom in well enough to tell what or IF it is.

Do you know if he is supposed to be English or American? This pic looks more American than English Orp body type... but I am here to learn as well, so please don't take my word for it! :pop

But... the other competition might not be perfect either and why not try?! :fl

Thanks! I was wondering about the color on his comb, it happened over winter so hoping it will fade. He is pretty light and very dirty lol. I've seen a lot of different ones and so not sure if the exact standard. I need to read up on that more.

That's a good question. I have to ask the hatchery he came from to know for sure. I guess it never hurts to enter!

that is some frostbite, it should heal itself

Lavenders are bad about sun fading, and always look better after a good molt. They are also prone to getting lighter each generation, which is why many folks keep black/split ones to breed back into their lines.
Also can't tell from the pic, but they should be really broad across the chest.
This was one of my big boys.

Beautiful boy! That makes sense. He was a runt so I am always amazed how big he got. I'm considering keeping a black/split to breed back to him actually. We start incubating soon.
