***Show Tips And Tricks to Make your bird look the Best for a Show!***

I also agree, "show prep" begins from day one. Not a couple days or weeks before a show.

I feed for feather growth and size - I feed a higher protien than is recomended by mass manufactured feeds. Whole grains and free range makes a world of difference in body condition as well. I've thrown in a fat supplement the week prior just as a booster.

Week before, I bathe. Then birds are housed indoors and kept as clean as possible on pine shavings.

Black pearl dog shampoo on my black birds. VetRX on combs and wattles. Quick nail trim. That's about it.

Day of show, quick blow with the dryer gets dust off. Wash feet if necessary and away we go!

Oh an da friend advised me for feather footed breeds to soak their feet in epsom salt water. Doesnt dry them out and it lossens up and gunk in the feeathers without causing damage.

Let me tell you guys my first show I blew my Cochins dry. and they have plenty of cushion. I blew it backwards! And washed my Splash in dog whitening shamoo BLUE.
Would have loved this thread years ago LOL
I still pour vinegar after Dawn bath and baby shampoo on face full strength and rinse very well?

Thats something I forgot to mention-blow drying. When you blow dry birds always go with the feathers except a few cases. Generally a good idea with frizzles in any breed and silkies benefit from a blow drying against the feathers before check in, going against the feathers gives them more fluff, cochins need it around the tail/cushion area as well.

QUESTION, added vegetable oil top dressing and the fat supplement

Are those added to condition internally like weight gain? Or is it an added benefit to skin or feather condition?

Why just before show and not all the time?
