I should have some auburns in early spring. Right now my blacks and mottled are laying fairly well but I still can't meet the demand.

How does everybodies Java's do on foraging? Ours are to funny, they have learned that crickets hide under the edge of the feed tote so every afternoon when they see me coming to feed they surround the tote and wait for me to open the lid. Needless to say it takes a very fast/lucky cricket to escape them. Then they all stand there and look at me to move the feed tote over so they can get whatever is under that. They are constantly on the move scratching, pecking anything that moves, crawls or wiggles is gone.

I would love to piece together a Java page using everyone's photos. I'll contact everyone individually before I use them but, if anyone would not like me to use their pics to use on the breeds database, please pm me.

Oh, and maybe someone could just give some quick info. on your personal experiences with them.. are they broody, are the aggressive, friendly, etc.

I just love the 4 Black Java I have! 2 Roosters and 2 hens. I find mine to be very friendly and smart. Mine have also learned the moving of the bucket trick for crickets. They also will follow me along the fence line because they know crickets jump up then too and will follow me around the yard for the same reason.

They are very good foragers and will eat anything I toss to them.

I think the seller told us she is five months old; soon to lay. We haven't named her because DH says it is hard to put an animal on the table if you treat it like a pet; i.e., name it.

We found out Javas are endangered (is that the correct term) and folk are encouraging bringing the breed back. We'd like to join in that effort. We stumbled upon her and hope to find others.

My father (in the profile pic) and I raise Black Javas and are actively searching for Black and White Java hatching eggs. It is so important to restore the population of this beautiful bird. They are so friendly and the eggs are wonderfully flavorful. If anyone will be selling these eggs please reply, I would appreciate being placed on any list for these egg,s no matter the wait time. Thank you!
