Mine are not ingenious in any way, shape or form....its just what works for us, we were leaning toward the plastic buckets, easy to clean etc...but my girls are not quite laying yet, so we will see what they do with this...

Aspen tree branch roost and left over wood for boxes...the cage on the floor is holding my 3 8wk olds, slowly integrating them into the flock...

I'm using milk crates with flat plastic bottoms and front lip. Right now my rabbit is kinda using it she's due any day now, once she's done my chicken should be ready to use it for egg laying.

This is what DH came up with. I love it and think it is just wonderful.
It is a good way to use and old bed frame that you don't want to throw away.
Our girls just love it.

Just make sure you don't make too many. I had a friend help me build my coop and I talked him into only 2 for 6 chickens. Once in awhile they will use 2,but mostly they all lay in one box. You're coop I awesome!
