Brand new boxes built today by hubby with wood shavings in them. They'd only been in the coop for 2hrs but at nightfall, my clever chooks had put themselves to bed for their first night with boxes.

Thanks for the info Nutmeg. Just this past week I sent a picture of my babies to a breeder friend and she reckons every last chick is a boy. I don't think I'll need a nest box for a while. : Edited to add: I may need a larger freezer though...

We have been making some improvements in the hen house and here is an updated picture of their nesting boxes. 10 hens share these. I may make more later.

From This: Two boxes with a small roost to the left.



To This: Two more boxes with a poo-board above.



To This: Boxes changed around and a different poo-board! When I made the new poo-board, I switched them to this side of the coop. Can't ever make up my mind!

Hubby says we have very intelligent chickens since they can read now!
