Show your outrageous, oversized, misshapen rooster combs!!

Here's a young bantam marans with a full sized marans comb. The scabs are from other birds pecking him.

Any avian vet can trim this comb back in a humane manner. You should trim it in cooler weather so the flies won't bother the incision and he must be kept away from his gals until he's completely healed.

I agree. My Godson works for a vet in Phoenix. He doesn't think it will cost too much to have it done there. It's still over 100 degrees in Phx and I would like to give Richie another month or so to finish growing anyway. So probably later next month. I will post pics when he can see out of both eyes!!

Tacking it over in a couple of places was my first thought also. But his comb is pretty thick and fleshy, the weight of his comb would probably pull the stitches tearing up his skin.

This is Frankenstein. He is a Brown Leghorn (mama) and Polish crested. Craziest comb I've ever seen. It starts as a single and goes into a double. He was still pretty young here. I had to give hiim away, so I don't think I have a picture of him older, tho his new Mama sent me some. I wiill check.

Here's the last picture I have of him....his new Mama sent it a week after he was rehomed. Very interesting looking bird.....however, his sister of the same parents is the ugliest hen I've ever seen. They both have teeny tiny liittle heads.

Sometimes I wonder whether you could modify a pinless peeper so that rather than having blinkers, it has two plastic strips running backwards as comb supports for floppy roosters!
