Any avian vet can trim this comb back in a humane manner. You should trim it in cooler weather so the flies won't bother the incision and he must be kept away from his gals until he's completely healed.
I agree. My Godson works for a vet in Phoenix. He doesn't think it will cost too much to have it done there. It's still over 100 degrees in Phx and I would like to give Richie another month or so to finish growing anyway. So probably later next month. I will post pics when he can see out of both eyes!!
Tacking it over in a couple of places was my first thought also. But his comb is pretty thick and fleshy, the weight of his comb would probably pull the stitches tearing up his skin.
