I saw a gorgeous Showgirl roo at a local swap meet over a month ago. This bird was calico looking with a fair amount of white, hard for me to describe. I can't get him out of my mind.

There's another swap coming up this weekend and I may be able to get him. I have 8 (mostly) heritage breed (Cochin, Brahma, Giant, Wyandotte and EE) hens and was wondering what crossings with that roo would produce. Would they all have black naked necks? Silky feathers? Funny looking or cute?

I also have 2 Silkie hens, a black and an alleged partridge, practically no black but darker than a buff. They're in a separate coop with a clumsy young splash rooster. I think if the Showgirl roo is romantically involved with either of those girls, I'd get more Showgirls, is that so?

I sure would appreciate any help.

It depends if he is homozygous for the naked neck gene, heterozygous males will have a bow tie, the homozygous males will have full naked neck

Example:

Aha I didn't know that, very helpful.
So if I have this right, naked neck is a dominate gene? If N stands for the naked neck gene and n stands for non-naked neck, then homozygous is NN and heterozygous is Nn (or nN)? How helpful of nature to advertise the heterozygous type!

That is one pretty hen. It looks like there are some cool chicks in the background.

It's pretty simple to be fair get him if he breeds what u want keep him if he dosntdo sell him it doesn't always work out the Gene u can only picture what comes out after ur first hatch with him it's just the way it is

Breeding can be such a crap shoot can't it? I wonder if there's any demand for Showgirl crosses? I'm not looking to make money but want to know I can place any offspring.

I am sure very few people will be able to tell the difference between a pure "Showgirl" and a Showgirl x Silkie cross.
