Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

HUHUHUHUHU! <<<Maniacal old chicken witch laughter.

We FINALLY HAVE A FLOCK SIRE OF OUR OWN!

A REALLY nice Paint Showgirl cockerel just started to pounce today. No crowing yet, nor any luck with the point of pouncing, but he is definitely not a girl.

HUGE dark eyes, great dark skin color, fantastic foot feathering and toe spacing, great big crest, really great, even spotting, ZERO hard feathering, compact silkie type, great big cushion, lovely young roo carraige, and a nice friendly personality. He is only 4 months old, but looks like he will blossom into just about the very best paint showgirl cock I have EVER seen. Hooray!

pics to come.

Are you going to sell shipped fertile eggs? I hatched three paint showgirls back in November, I kept the one I thought was female and sold the two "boys" and I got it backwards. So I have a beautiful paint roo (although non-bearded which makes me sad) with no hens :( He started crowing at 10 weeks old! I have not had any luck finding any SQ white silkie females in my area or I would try that...so looking for some more paint girls!

I am also waiting impatiently for pics of this pretty boy! He sounds gorgeous!

Here is the Wonderboy Paint Showgirl, Re:

He's on the left, here:

Butts, for scale. His best girlfriend Widget is on the left, the 8 week old cock (who will need a new home, soon) next to him in the above pic is again on his right, here:

His eyes are phenomenally big:

Toe spacing and feathering are fantastic:

Here are some from about a month ago, when I still thought he was a she:

Yes, I plan to sell fertile hatching eggs, as soon as I am certain that Re is hitting his targets. He is over three lovely white showgirl hens currently. He isn't crowing, yet, and isn't managing to hang on to the ladies very well, but IS trying. I will want to set a batch of babies myself to see how he is doing, and should be reasonably able to do that within two months. As soon as I see veins in the majority of set eggs, I will send you some. Check out our website www.compoundpoultry.weebly.com. I will put people on the list for Paint Showgirl eggs in the order they make payment, just like I do for my Dorkings. Eggs will be $30/dozen, including as many extras as I can spare, plus $15 for shipping. You can PM me for Paypal addy if you want to pre-order.

Let me know if anyone is interested in that younger Paint cockerel. He will be $50, plus $50 shipping. He has one good dark eye, and one eye with a pigment hole you can see in the above pic, but is really very good otherwise. He would make a nice starter flock roo for someone.

My three that I hatched are from the same breeder you got Re from....I got eggs right after your hatch, mine were born in December. I had three hatch and two were very nice, one too much pink skin.
The one that I kept, the male, would be related to yours...would it still be ok to use girls hatched from your eggs to breed to my Rooster? Just checking, I am still learning :) My boy has the toes, the big black eyes, furry feet, a black patch on his shoulders. All looks great other than no beard..so I hate to give him away as a free rooster, I would rather try to breed him to another paint girl to get more female babies, I wanted a few girls for my flock as pets. Also, with the eggs coming all the way to Utah, from Indiana, and you having only 3 hens, do you think collecting a dozen would likely take too many days with added shipping for them to all still be fertile? Or would they be ok?

Your hatching eggs should be fine. I'm in Arkansas, not Indiana. I ship Priority Mail, so you'll get your hatching eggs in two days. I'll get 3 eggs a day in the springtime, and that would only be 4 days of collecting for each order, for a total of 6 days for the oldest ones by the time they reach you, and 7 days when they are set. Viability isn't affected by age until about two weeks, as long as the eggs are turned. I date all my eggs. I should also have another Paint showgirl beginning to lay this spring, as well, but probably not until after May. Breeding babies from me would be fine, since it's really fine to breed even full siblings for several generations before you have to worry about adding new genes. Congenital problems don't work the same way for birds as for mammals, and "Line-breeding" (inbreeding) is an important way to breed good quality birds. Plus, mine will have the new genes from my white girls to add to the mix, so that would be a really good way for you to start off.

Im going to guess that my ladies' eggs should be fertile by the end of April, so I guess I can go ahead and make a list of folks who want them, once I receive their payment. You can PM me for the Paypal addy. I've had people nagging me for eggs for months now, but haven't wanted to count on having a decent roo and taking payment until now.

Adorable pair.

I've been trying to download a pix of my Showgirl roo but for some reason, BYC can't download them. Regardless, I just love him.
