so ur starting with turken on silkies that a lot of work it take 10 to 15 generations to get back to what i have above and showgirls at this poin are nothing but pretty name for naked neck silkies

Yep! I wanted to start something my very own and have waited a year for my first little ones to pop up!!! LOL

I started with a turken hen and silkie rooster and my two little guys or girls are my first ones. I know it wil be a lot of work to get them where they need to be but that is how I wanted to go into this project. Start at the bottom and work my way up!
Heck all the kids are out of the house, what else do I have to do, right? LOL

The reason I had asked about the skin color is because I had read something that all the pullets in the first generation will have the dark skin because it is sex linked. So, this is not accurate then?

that something i dont know didnt start at f1 i started out with f10+ idont have room or time for f1 through f9 my birds arent perfect and it going take a lot get them there from where im starting

IMO it does not matter what generation you are on if you breed crappy to crappy it will equal poor quality BUT it CAN work the other way as well. When ask what generation my showgirls are my respone is "who cares have you seen them?"
When starting your own line I would say start with the best you can afford and cull HARD! It will be fun but a lot of work. I wish you the best sounds like you have the time.

We have another show this weekend and I have been washing birds all day.
As I was told when first started out, "the proof is in the pudding the generation is less of a concern"!

Excellent way to look at it!!! If they look good, who cares what generation it is, right?
I have been working bettering my silkies but seemed to be having better luck on my partridges.
I was just anxious to know if my first 2 are girls or boys since I had read the skin color is directly sexlinked. I was hoping both are pullets because I have more than enough roo's at my house.

I am not sure I have tons of time but I have the determination!

Good luck at the show!!!

Amen. They can be 20+ generation but if they don't have the fluff and don't have the type, they're just another pet quality bird. I have no idea how many generations mine are. I don't care. What I care about is that they look like a good silkie EXCEPT they have a naked neck.

I have to say, Sheryl Butler had a very nice homozygous showgirl at the Nationals that got BV. She was certainly pretty!

I hatched out 2 more very pretty babies from my beloved Edward just yesterday. I will try and get pics soon of some of the older babies as well as the new one's. He is throwing some lovely babies and no DQ's since removing Fergie from the mix. It was killing me to have them and know I could not keep them. I was able to find them pet homes for life with no worries of them being used for breeding.

Oh Jen he bit me for the first time last week when I was checking the girls over. He is turning out to be such a ladies man. He bases his attack on how bad of a fit the girls are throwing. Sometimes I just pet them enough to get his attention. Soon as they squeal he turns my way the more they fuss the closer he gets to bitting me. He is too freaking cute. He is still my baby but he prefers I leave his girls alone. I am still so very lucky he is here. Gaga and Bells are great. Bells is one of the most complaining chickens in the coop. She fusses about everything. Very chaty that one. Gaga is spoiled rotten at this point and gets a scrambled egg with garlic every day. She loves it. Not sure how this happened but she waits on it every morning now so I can't not give it to her. Both are very pretty! Not sure if Bells is going Saturday she has 3 feathers broken on her left wing. I did not notice till I was giving her a bath.
I will get pics soon.
