Showgirl with a bad spider bite!!! *Graffic Pics***

The mites may have weakened her and allowed the infection to take hold or get worse, or the mites may have found her after the infection set in and she was already weakened. Either way you can only treat to get rid of them and hope she can regain strength and recover. Certainly having mites on top of the rest is not going to help her condition. I hope you can help her get well.

I saw this thread too late to respond and I'm sorry for your loss.
Mites are killers. They suck blood and cause anemia, then death. Red mites are vectors for many types of bacterial and viral diseases. I suspect the Showgirl may have scratched the infected area due to mites' irritation and causing infection. The mites would then swarm on the bloodied area to feed on more blood, releasing toxins into the bloodstream.
It may have been too late to treat her, but initially doxycycline wouldve slowed and stopped the infection along with permethrin treatment to kill the mites as mentioned.

If it were a spider bite, we're talking about venom that possibly causes swelling and is necrotic. As mentioned by Wyorp Rock, benadryl, 1/4 tablet given orally to keep the trachea open preventing swelling, so the bird can breathe. Again, doxycycline would be the first choice of antibiotic given immediately to stop the necrotic effects.
I hope this helps for future reference and I wish you the best.
