Showing different breeds in fair

A guy from our neighborhood brought us a lost California white, So we went around and asked some houses but no one claimed her. We decided to keep her, and about 3 months later(which would be present time) and she just started laying. Now I'm an intermediate class in 4H so I wanted to show her. But can I show a California white?

You can't show her, because she is a hybrid not a recognized breed.

Local county/4H fairs usually have different rules than an APA chicken show...so you need to find out from your 4H club if you can show your birds there.

They are not recognized by the APA. A California White is a cross between a California Gray male (by crossing a Barred Plymouth Rock rooster and a White Leghorn hen) and a White Leghorn female.They are considered a sex-link hybrid. You may be able to show it at a fair as they do have less restrictions on what you can show. Good luck and have fun...

Some fairs have a utility class and allow some sex-links.

At our fair this year, there were 4-H entries for red sex-links and Amber Whites. They did well, too. I didn't pay attention to which category they were entered under, but they were there!
