Oh! And just some info....shrews are completely blind. They find their way around by vibrations and scent only. Amazing!

the shrews I caught when we lived in WA were only like 2 inches long nose to tail. I cant see one EATING a chick, maybe biting it but not eating it...

We caught one when I was young, and we kept them in a container for a couple of weeks before letting it go again. We had to constantly feed it . . . I've never seen such voracious eaters! And terrible smelling, but I didn't think they smelled as bad as ferrets or cats. A neighbor of ours asked us to release it in his garden, said it was great for keeping away pests.
