Hey guys I am new to the forum and I wanted to know if it is common to have shrimp in a treat mix for your chickens. Some site suggest it is a good way to add calcium. Is this a normal addition?

Personally I'd rather eat shrimp myself, but they are safe for chickens to eat.

The clear flexible part of the shrimp shell is mostly chitin. That is a protein not containing a lot of calcium. The hard parts like the claws are mostly calcium. They will get some benefits form eating the shrimp, including some calcium. But i would not count on that to add a significant amount of calcium to their diet by itself. It won't hurt and will help some.

Are shrimp considered a normal treat? Not to my knowledge but about anything is a treat to chickens.

I eat the shrimp and give them the shell. Don't give them a lot of special treat or they will not eat the layer feed!
