Shrink Bags

I'm trying to figure out if there's anywhere to get these bags in person? Has anyone heard of an actual place you can get these or anything even comparable? Like 'insert famous farm supply chain' or "most local feed stores"? I'm also curious as to what if anything, other than the thickness of the bags, makes them different? I mean, with all else being equal, is there anything special that makes them seal tight when submerged other than poking the hole in it?

go with a thicker plastic bag. cheap thin ones are no good. Some plastic bags do not freeze well and will crack when the bag is at freezer temperature and you handle them.

Even if the bag doesn't break, it doesn't keep the meat in the same condition as a meat in a more robust bag. That is what I've noticed from personal experience.

Don't skimp out on few cents a bag for $$ home grown chicken.

Thank you, SmilingCat Are there any good thick bags that will seal when submerged, that you're aware of, that I can by in person?

They are made of a special heat sensitive plastic that contracts when heated. (I understand you can also get them to shrink in the oven, but it won't be as smooth and tight.) The hole is just there to let the air out as the bag shrinks.

I've never seen them in stores, but I imagine if you contact one of the sellers they'll send you a sample.

Is this what you use RobertH? Can you dip it in water the same as the others as an option to seal? How do you seal both ends? Will it last in the freezer a year or so with little to no freezer burn? The bags I've seen on line are 10x16" but the 10" roll you showed me is only a 6" diameter, I wonder if I should move up to a 12" wide roll or what?

Uline has great customer support, so I would call them for sealing options and temperature to cause shrinking. I have not used for poultry. but a hot air gun works great for this stuff, but I see no reason hot water would not work as well. I expect the 200 gauge would be the best option. Call them and see if they offer a sample.
