Ok...well this totally amazes me! New thing learned...LOL! Gonna chat with my hubby and see what he thinks about all this! He is all for letting her hatch some babies...but we had been talking about cochinsPeople use Cochins and silkies all the time to hatch out duck eggs.
It is 85-90 here most days and SoCal has low humidity...10-15%...thoughts?NO no misting, she will do the job. Unless it's really hot out, then close to hatching day you want to mist them really good.
poor think, I think I will take your motherly hood away from you. LOL see what your husband thinks about that too... LOLOk...well this totally amazes me! New thing learned...LOL! Yep, they won't last full term, they should hatch early...It is 85-90 here most days and SoCal has low humidity...10-15%...thoughts?
I know...I felt sooo mean the last couple of times making her move off her nest! She is never mean when I do and will go about her daily business once I do..but still...thinking we all may be happy with her being a momma for a bitpoor think, I think I will take your motherly hood away from you. LOL see what your husband thinks about that too... LOL
Try not to stress..it was probably just the heat, unfortunately. Watch your ducklings because they will indicate if it is too hot/cold by avoiding heat or huddling under and not moving. Your best bet is to have a big enough brooder so there is an area for the heat lamp to warm and an area without so they can go to a cooler area when needed. It doesn't have to be fancy...you can use a plastic tub or box...open top for venilation. And unfortunately other ducklings/chicks will peck at ones that are sick or dead....lord only knows why????Holy Moley I missed a lot today!! So, brooder temp was 85ish.. I think my mercury thermometer isn't very reliable. They seemed to be huddling away from the heat this week so I bumped it down to 80ish this morning after the one died just to be sure it wasn't hear related![]()
I'm just scared they're going to start dropping like flies now. That one seemed perfectly find last night. They were in the brooder in the room my kids slept in last night and my kids came running into my room this morning screaming that one of the new babies was laying on it's back with it's eyes open and the other ducks were around it pecking at it. It must have died sometime in the middle of the night.![]()
