when I opened the incubator for my husband to remove baby quail we notice after closing the incubator there was a egg moving and so we decided to wait over night and see what would happen and the egg stop moving I picked it up and it was still alive chirping but stuck so I got a cotton ball and wet it with warm water my husband and I helped the chick hatch but now it seem like it’s taking forever to get up and walk around the chick is moving around but not walking and it’s still really wet ... did we mess up by removing it from the shell? Btw the cord is still attached
I have a 4250 pro series Incubator and humidity varies from 75-80

Can you post pics? How old is it now?

Also, that humidity is too high. It sounds like the chick is just really weak. Do you have any poultry electrolytes/Pedialyte/molasses?

I don't hatch quail, mainly chickens and an occasional turkey. I don't know what humidity should be during hatch for quail but my humidity often goes to 85% or higher when the chicks start hatching and releasing all that moisture. That doesn't bother the later ones hatching.

Did you see any blood when you removed the shell? If you did, not good. If there was no blood then it had absorbed the blood and dried up the blood vessels so that part should be OK.

With that cord it sounds like it may not have absorbed the yolk. A photo might help. If that is what you are seeing it may still absorb the yolk or it may not. You can only wait.

I don't know how long that quail chick has been out. Sometimes it can take quite a while for them to get enough strength after wearing themselves out by trying to hatch. With humidity that high it can take a while for them to dry off. At this stage I don't know of anything you can do but wait.

Did you need to help that egg? I don't know. It can be hard to know when they need help. About half the chicks I help don't make it. There is a reason they were having trouble hatching to start with. Some are just not meant to make it. Just keep it warm, give it time, and good luck.

After letting him
Why did you help it hatch? It doesn’t sound like it needed it yet @MGG
It stop moving I left one that was shrinked wrapped for 24 hours to see if he could do it on its own and it died
