Mary thought she heard something walking on the roof, and it sounded heavier than something as simple as a squirrel. With so many strange things in this society, she didn't know what to expect, but the first thing she did was get up and scramble to get her bracelets on in the darkness of her unlit room. Then, she lit a few candles and cautiously got her flail.
