i had one that used to hide under the house. everytime i would decide she was dead for sure, i would happen to see her in the yard for a few minutes before she was gone again. one time i literally didnt' see her for two weeks as she always seemed to time her self when i wasn't out there. so hopefully it will just be something odd like that. good luck

Thanks all for all the hope and encouragement. We looked this morning before school/work but nothing.

We don't have a rooster, so it would be immaculate conception if she came home with a bunch of chicks, but I'm all for miracles! I am worried that if she is broody that she might sit and sit and nothing would happened, but then again I'm also worried that a coyote or a dog got her. but we didn't see feathers or anything. They were only alone for about an hour. . .

thanks Sheps4her for the tip of the animal control. I'll call them now and will take the afternoon off to hunt more for her. Would a smart chicken decide to go broody outside the coop when the weather is predicted to drop to 5 degrees in 2 days???!!! No.

I'll keep everyone posted and start crawling way under the deck to look into barrels tipped on their side. . .
