This morning when changing out our chicks bedding we noticed one had what appeared to be a blood clot hanging out her vent. upon closer inspection, it appears to possibly be part of her intestines. Definitely not pasty vent. Is there anything we can do and if so, what? Thanks!

Chicks can poo blood if they have coccidiosis , you would treat with Corid. If it is intestines, or part of the inner vent area the chick could have prolapsed or been picked at by the others. Seperate the chick immediately from the others. Clean the area with saline solution and some diluted bedadine . If the protrusion is not damaged, try to push it back in place with some neosporine applyed to a Q tip. Applying hemroid cream may help the tissue shrink back up. If tissue is damaged the chick will not make it.

Thanks for the advice. My wife cleaned her up and was able to push the prolapse back in. We have her isolated from the other chicks and will monitor her. Thanks again!
