Hello, my family just got new baby chicks and one of them died yesterday morning and now one of them is acting very strange. She cannot move very well and will not put any weight on her left leg and whenever she tries to stand she falls to whatever side. We quarantined her in her own little container away from the others. She does much better there and eats a little, we have to help her alot in order for her to drink though. I looked up threads on BYC and used there advice and added some finely minced garlic and a little apple cider vinegar to her water. Her poops are normal but she seems to sleep much more than usual. She has moments where she looks like she's on death's door and others where she's just like normal. If anyone has ANY advice it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!

I also need some advice. I have 15 2 1/2 month chicks who seem to be fine but one of my white silkies is acting very lethargic and feels very underweight. It's hard to notice under all that fluff. I think she's been like this a couple days but not exactly sure. I have 9 2 yr old chickens, 15 2 1/2 month Olds and 11 4 wk old.

I took her out of the coop and bathed her. She had wet and dry poop all over her. Pew! I bathed, seperated, fed and gave her water with electrolytes. So,..she makes the cutest little sound and is content sitting on my chest sleeping or standing. The diarrhea has stopped plus I clipped the feathers around her vent for less mess. She stands but not very tall. I don't know what else to do. If I put her in the coop she just stands in a corner like she's napping standing up. She's weak, inactive and underweight.

That sounds quite different from what our chick has, you are talking about a chick right? Our chick does not have and poop problems, it sounds a lot like your chick has pasty butt.

once I cleaned the poop up there's been no more problem. It's the lethargy and being underweight that worries me. If feels like the breastbone is protruding because there is no meat on its little bones. I'd like to know how to get its weight up. What to give It. .?? I guess it could be something genetic.

Are you sure she is eating enough? You may want to start your own thread or post this on a thread about Silkies because unfortunately, I don't know a lot about this breed, I was looking for advice on a Buff Orpington. Sorry! I hope your chick gets better!

She's doing ok. She's functioning better. She eats all the time but she's just very fragile. She really perked up when I put her back with the others. It's probably genetic.I will do more research and I'm monitoring her closely. Thankyou!
