I brought some chicks home over the weekend that arrived Friday at the feed store. They all seem to be doing well except for one of the little welsummers. Yesterday she slept and slept. I put sugar in the water and mixed up some of the sugar water and feed. I dipped her beak in the water, and I observed her drinking and eating. As of last night she seemed to be favoring crawing around on her bottom unless I put my hands into he brooder and then she gets up on her feet and runs. Is there anything extra I can do for her? I expected for her to pass in the night but she is still with us. All the other chicks are so bright and active, and she just sleeps in the corner. Do chicks ever make comebacks or is she pretty much on her way out?

Thanks!

Absolutely they can make a come back! I had one do the same thing. I would hold off on the sugar water, get some poly-vi-sol baby vitamin drops WITHOUT iron ($7 or so from Walmart, or a couple bucks more at your local drug store) and you can drip just a little down the side of her beak and let her swallow it on her own. I cooked up some egg yoke (or you can use a hardboiled egg), I also suggest mixing up a little yogurt with chick starter and see if she'll eat that. Also, put a little bit of apple cider vinegar in their waterer, it'll boost their immune system and help them absorb the vitamins.

Good luck!
