Last week I switched my birds from an organic lay mash that I get from a local organic farm, to Blue Seal Organic lay pellets. The reason for the change was mainly because I prefer pellets to mash. I switched them straight over. After a couple of days two of my birds developed loose droppings and got pasty butts. Now tonight, one of my EE bantums had a very full crop at bedtime. The other birds were ready to sleep, and she was walking around looking uncomfortable. Strangely, she was attempting to eat, and was drinking too, despite her distended crop.
First thing in the morning I'm going to get another bag of the old mash. Don't know if it's the new food, or the sudden switch, but I have to get my poor birds back to normal.
Maybe when they're better, I'll slowly transition them to the regular old Southern States pellets that I used to get from Agway. I would like to go all organic, but it's costly, and I really just want happy, healthy birds. If there is anyone out there in my region that has had good results with a different brand of food I'd welcome suggestions.
