Oh My, the pictures you posted are almost exactly what is wrong with my 2 yr old leghorn. I was thinking she's egg bound but scabby's rump looks just like that. She has seemed depressed for a week now and not eating or drinking much. With her extreme weight loss, I began panicking about what could be wrong with her. These pictures help but what if there is no liquid to drain?
Checking in to see how Blackie is feeling? I have a two year old leghorn "scabby" with very similar symptoms and I'd like as much info as I can get. Like you, I'm not comfortable in putting her down unjustly and Scabby appears to be holding on. She just sleeps a lot and will eat or drink a little at a time. I did give her liquid calcium and a warm bath yesterday in case she is egg bound, her poop is looking normal but stinks. Any ideas?
Blackie was found dead yesterday morning in the nest box. Her abdomen was VERY hard and swollen. My teenage son buried her. I didnt have the heart to perform a necropsy.
