Dear readers; I got up today to a very sick little lady. Her breathing is very croupy. I didn't notice prior to this morning as she is brooding and is not a friendly bird. I have had her for years and she still does not trust any human. Of course she has improved but she still prefers her own company to any human.I am really worried- I need help in deciding what medicine I can give her. I read about a product that is not an antibiotic sold @ My pet chicken that supposedly eliminates the need for antibiotics. Is it to late to use this product as she is already sick? If so, where is the best place to buy what I need. I live in Vancouver,Canada Thanks for any help at all.

I would look for signs of a respiratory virus or mycoplasma. Does she have watery or bubbly eyes, nasal drainage, sneezing, or rattly breathing? This may be the product that your friend is speaking of, and it contains oregano oil and other herbs, but It has nothing in it that treats a virus or MG:

If she seems very sick, I would speak with a vet to get some antibiotics such as oxytetracycline, tylosis, or denagard.

If she’s broody she might not be sick. Some hens give a warning call that sounds like a growl to warn you off. (Not sure to how to exactly explain the sound) but I would youtube sounds of a broody hen to see if any of the noises matches the noise she’s making. If you could list her symptoms or upload a video that would be great!
