Sick Chick?-HELP! MORNING UPDATE, REALLY NEED HELP!

Thank you all very much for your help and advice! Henny Penny is doing a lot better tonight. She's eating, drinking, and playing like a normal chick! I've only see her neck wobble oddly once, and that's when she was trying to go to sleep. Her neck does seem to be spasming less than it had yesterday. She's been awake a lot more today, too. I've put her back with her flock, and she seems a lot happier.

I did pick up some Durvet Vitamin and Electrolyte powder at the feed store today to put in everyone's water.

All of your suggestions have helped save this chick for now!!!!

Blessings, Sonja

Glad to hear she seems to be a bit better but can you give us more specific details on the state of the crop (did it go down? >check this in the morning after having taken away feed for the evening ) ...
As far as the electrolytes go, you really should not give them to the other chicks if they are showing no symptoms (electrolytes should only be given when it is very hot, when you suspect they are not drinking sufficiently , when thye have been panting, or in shock) I believe your sick chick could benefit from them but you should separate to give them if your other chicks do not need them.

Do you have or did you get any other vitamins? You can give all yoru chickies some live culture (plain not flavored) yogurt and I would also mix in just enuf cooked-in-water human oatmeal to make the feed moist and clump together a bit (you are feeding medicated chick starter arent you?)

Yes, they are on medicated chick feed. I checked her crop several times last night, and it is emptying. I did get a vitamin/electrolyte supplement from the feed store. She is doing a lot better now. Her only issue is when she gets tired and is settling down to bed, she stretches her neck out and it will almost spasm to the left and right. The only time this happens is when is sleepy. Could she possibly have hurt her neck? I'll try the yogurt mixed with otmeal. I did get some plain yougurt the last time I was at the store. She's made it through the last 2 days with all of your help! Thank you!! This morning she looks perky and is running with her siblings.

Diana, I tried to PM you, but your box is full. I have her in a brooder with her 1 week old siblings and 9, 2 weekers. I have 9, 4 day old chicks I got yesterday in a seperate brooder. Should I put her in with the newbies, so she can rest and be in a calmer setting?

Thanks, Sonja

Have you had her separated? I would keep a good eye on her and keep her in a quiet non-stressful environment ... not really sure if putting her in with hyper baby chickies would fit that bill... lol.
Keeping stress down, nutrition ideal is what will help her. I would also suggest some wheatgermoil as it provides for some important micronutrients...you can also give a human vitE tab (just p r i c k open the tab and squeeze out )

Thanks Diana, I have her in her own box inside the brooder. She keeps trying to fly out though. The box has small slates in it so she can still see and hear the others. It seems to help her to have the others around. She doesn't like being completely alone. I have her on a vitamin/electrlyte supplement, and I was planning on getting some infant vitamins for her at the health food store. She's still having the neck spasms. Do you think she could have some neurological disorder? If she was sick wouldn't she have passed on by now? The neck spasms started Wednesday night, and she was completely normal until that point. Thank you very much for you help!!!
