Sick Chick Just Hatched

Hi I'm new to BYC and need help for a chick that's just hatched. We checked on our hen and seen a chick was stuck in the shell. I gently peel the shell off, it was stuck to the chicken in some parts. The chick is breathing but won't open it's eyes it cheeps sometimes but can't lift it's head. It also had open bulging at it's rear which i pushed back in. I've taken it away from the hen as it can't move. Not sure what else I can do to help it thanks

Hi and welcome to BYC - a shame that you have to begin your membership of our flock on such a bum note. I hope that other members will have something more positive to suggest, but personally i would cull the chick.

Glad you could join the flock! I'm sorry to hear you have a sick chick From how you have described the bulging at the chicks rear end I would think it has some kind of hernia in the umbilical area. I'm afraid things are not looking for your chick but you could try to make it more comfortable with heat and see if it would like something to eat and drink. I'm afraid not all chicks hatch healthy and it is just natures way.
