Sick Chick What could be wrong?

It is actually my 4.5 week old Cuckoo Maran hen. She has been on organic feed. We have oyster shell grit, but will start it tomorrow- we just got it. They have been using a heat lamp, and the others are healthy and fine. We are treating the rest with Corid in their water.

When she is awake, feed her some scrambled egg or raw egg yolk. I would try to do this every hour or so. Every little bit you get in her will help. If she is being treated with corid in the water, you can also make a mash out of the chick food using the corid treated water mixed in it to make it soft and moist. This will help even if she isn’t drinking much.

FYI Don’t give vitamins while treating with Corid.

Good luck w your little sweetie. ❤️

Oyster shell is water soluble and is not suitable as grit. You need to buy granite chick grit.

Treat this sick chick with an undiluted drench dose of Corid. Syringe straight Corid into the chick at .1ml once a day for three days. It looks pretty sick, but maybe the drench can make a difference.

What have you been feeding the chicks in the way of treats?

@Iluveggers is right - don't give anything with B vitamins or it will cancel the Corid effectiveness.

The oyster shell contains calcium as well, and should not be offered to chickens under 20 weeks. It is for laying hens. Granite grit comes in chick size and adult from most feed stores. If you have a vet who will do a gram stain of her poop, as well as a fecal float, that can identify enteritis along with coccidiosis.
