I got some new chick's on monday. 2 of them are polish. The shop said to give the silver polish extra attention. Well he has pasty butt, which I keep cleaning. He is very weak droopy wings, does a nice poop when I clean him off. He does manage to drink. He stumbles around as he walks but only walks a short distance before he lays down. What can I do to help him.

Chop up a hard boiled egg yolk and see if he'll eat some. Also you could put some Save-A-Chick in their drinking water to help perk him up. He may come out of this just fine. I've had a few chicks that behaved very similar to the one you describe, and they did seem to recover and do nicely.

I use probios and poly vi sol infant vitamins without iron. It saved my very sick chicks last year!

The real sick ones I put the drops in my hand and guided their beak into drinking a drop or two twice a day. I sprinkle the probios in wet feed. I also use the vitamins/probiotics on my healthy chicks to prevent sickness this batch around.

Good luck!

Hi cutipatooti,

I saw your post on the Heritage RIR thread and was trying to figure out where you are. So forgive me for answering a couple of posts here. I will also post on the RIR thread.

Give the chicks a little bit of plain yogurt along with the hard boiled egg. Also, get some chick grit from a store like the Tractor Store. Make sure it is for baby chicks, not chickens and parrots. When they are stressed, they have trouble getting their digestion going.

thanks. This is an old post and despite my efforts and all the wonderful advice the chick's did not make it. FYI I live in ny

Did you do what the shop guy said?My chicks dont need much attention, but my little one with no mother is healthy. I hatched it from an egg and when it started drinking I put molasses in its water and now it doing just fine.
