Yesterday I pulled a chick from my flock and quarantined her from the others. I found her in the chicken house listless and could barely make a sound. She is a silver-laced wyandotte with a characteristic honking vocalization. She would open her beak to make a sound and nothing would come out. I turned her over and saw that her vent area is inflammed and she had dried poop all over that area. I gave her a warm bath and cleaned her up. I fed her fresh bread and water which seemed to restore her vocalization ever so slightly for a moment. I kept her crated on the porch all night hoping for recovery but this morning she has gotten no better or worse. I am new to keeping chickens so any advice will be helpful.

Notes on her environment; she and another wyandotte were my first two hens. I acquired them a few months ago but lost one to a predator. 2 weeks after that incident I acquired a rooster and 4 production reds. A few weeks later I added another production red. All the other chickens are doing well. Nary a symptom in them.

They dwell in a grass yard that is penned in and covered. Their house is in this pen. The fencing is regular fence wire, large enough for tiny birds to get in and get into their feed bowl, which they do. I'm hoping she has not contracted a disease from a wild bird.

How is she now? If she's hanging on you should take pics and post them on here for us to see if her vent is the problem. More info is needed as well.
