Sick chicken...First time chicken mom

One thing people do not understand is Chickens carry disease....They all do......Once they get stressed...example, getting cold...They display symptoms of what they have.....It either kills them or they get over them again.....Keeping Birds warm and stress free helps........I only ever use OXY TETRA -A........I also do not feed many snacks to my Birds.....Chicken feed and water....Once a week I might give them a treat?

Cheers!

I really doubt the vet rx does much.... any different than the essential oils.

I've seen it, but I agree with @chickens really that it is best to keep it simple. I also minimize treats.

And I think plain water is best. But also know a little boost of energy might help sometimes to recover. All of my shipped chicks that were failing responded to the electrolytes and got a little boost of energy that helped make it to the feed. Not all survived but it did help. I think it's the B vitamins that really gave the short boost. Even alleviating symptoms (for me as a person) helps feel better which is more relaxing and may help sooner recovery. Rest is best.

Why put it in the birds mouth?! is that what it says on the directions? Is it a liquid or thick like vick's?

@chickensreally Thank you! I understand they all carry diseases and this stuff happens.

I brought her inside and she is staying nice and warm and away from our dogs and cat. She seems happy besides this wheezing and breathing. She does eat and drink when the wheezing settles down. I bought some electrlytes to give her in her water. I will have my husband pick up what you reccommened that you use. How long should we keep her inside and away from the other chickens.

We have 5 other hens and a rooster. They all seem very good this morning when I opened up the coop. Thank goodness.

Thank you SO much for your help! It is greatly appriciated!

@jdrake14 Ugh....I hate seeing them sick. Specially since this is our first sick chicken. I want to do whats right to tey to help. I can only hope that the advise given guides us to helping the best we can.

Are these your first chickens as well?

Also......I never remove a Bird from the Flock......I close up the Coop and keep them in for two day while first medicated......Then out as usual...If one has it, they all do.....Some get sick, some are carriers....It depends.....Stressful on her to be removed....If possible treat them all and leave her with her flock.....

Cheers!

@chickensreally Ok, she has been inside all day. So, I should put her back with them? I always thought to keep the sick away.

@chickensreally @EggSighred4Life @jdrake24 Thank you all for your advice and help today. This evening I went to check on her and she took her last breath.
