Found this today on bestfarmbuys.com and thought I would share I dont know how true it is but it might be worth looking into...................
Please be aware if you are buying chickens. Tyler's Emporium in Richmond is selling chickens who have Avian leukosis sarcoma. I have called him about getting chickens from him that are unhealthy he completely denies having any issues. We took a blue laced red wyandotte we got from him to university of Kentucky and we got the results back. This disease is a retrovirus that can be passed onto your flock. Also if you have this in your flock it is passed from the Hen to the egg if you hatch out babies they will have the sarcoma. Dave from Tyler's emporium said he has not had any issues and that people are coming and getting chicken from him and have had no problems. The sarcoma causes tumors to grow in your chickens and can cause some respiratory issues. The chickens can be carries, and not have symptoms, or they can have symptoms. The chicken I have I am not able to feel the breast bone, I must be very careful if I am going to add chickens and if I add babies they must have the merkel vaccination. My chickens are mostly pets I don't sell them so I am alright but if you are buying chickens to sell or show avoid tyler's emporium in Richmond, Ky

So...if his birds NEVER showed any symptoms...how was he to know to get his birds checked?

Also...why should she have to give a Marek's vaccination for Avian Leukosis? Two different viruses?

I mean, thanks for posting that information...but it's just a bit confusing?

I just posted exactly as the article said you can see it for yourself go to poultry for sale and kentucky and it is at the top of the list. It's just scary especially if you brought these sick birds into your flock with them not showing any symptoms and they all ended up with something. I would hate to loose my birds, as I know all of you would also.

the avian narcist carcinoma is a strain that is similar to the merek's disease. It is similar to a pneumonia vacine it is one form but helps build immunity against the carcinoma, if you research merek's disease you will notice that the birds have tumors, which is what our birds had. also the avian narcist carcimona has similar symptoms. There was three of us girls who got birds from the emporium mine that had tumors died this week I could tell after I got her home and settled that she was sick. when I introduced them two my two boys I lost my polish rooster, and I had to start abt one one of my pullets I got from him, because of the carcinoma it makes the chickens suscepible to disease, my friend in lexington's chicken had 3 things at once, but her chickens body was riddled with tumors.

sorry, did not get the whole name correct. There was 3 of us girls who got from the emporium, my friend in Lexington took hers to University of Ky and got them diagnosed. They told me about the emporium and I went there. We all live about 2 hours away from each other and got our birds withing a month of each other and the only thing similar about our birds are they all came from the emporium.

man i am glad yall found that i am looking for birds and he was a possiblity not now/
