Sick Chicken - lingering on.......

We put Claire down this morning.  I was hoping my husband would do it last night, but for whatever reason he waited - I'm sure wanting to be sure that's what I wanted him to do.  She made it through the night, but she couldn't even lift her little head this morning.  It was time.  I told her how much we loved her and said a little prayer.  We chose to tell our youngest that she passed in the night - don't think he could handle us choosing to end her life.  He hung onto the hope that she would recover.  It's never easy saying goodbye to a pet - even a chicken.

I hope Sis pulls through and if she doesn't I hope your family comes together in your love and grief.  :(

I am very sorry you had to go through that :hit.

RIP Claire.

cbdiann,

I am so sorry for you and your family. I've been amazed at how attached we've become to these silly yard birds too. Y'all take care.

Hello cbdiann

I'm afraid your hen could be at the brink of death. Feel her crop, there could be something wrong with it. Research sour crop and slow crop. If her crop feels full then it is definitely blocked, if it is then immediately stop feeding her! She won't starve, but if she is fed, it will only add to the problem. You will understand more if you dig around this site. Urgently do this, the earlier she is treated the more likely chance bad bacteria and yeast won't build up in the crop and produce toxins.
