I noticed that 2 of my birds have lost the majority of their feathers around their anuses. Their back side is coated in dung and very nasty. See photo.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

What are you feeding them? Just my opinion it just looks like a dirty chicken butt.I give my girls a little yogurt and a boiled egg when they get poopy like that. Give them a bath and trim the butt feathers on those that still have them so you don't get fly strike.

Agreed on the washing. I never let my hens walk around with nasty butts because of fly strike and I want to know WHY they have a nasty bumm.....not normal.

whatever it is, it needs to be cleaned first.

Just wash their butts in warm water and clean it good. Then dry it off. See if that helps.
