One of my Wyandottes has been looking lethargic lately. Under normal circumstances she's very active, but tonight I saw her with her tail drooping. Her wings were lowered, almost touching the ground. She has an unsteady gait and rests upon the ground more often than she stands. She's the smallest hen I have, very sweet and docile. I'm scared for her health, but I have no idea what this could indicate. She is eating and drinking just fine. Earlier today she was scratching around and appeared healthy. She also makes upwards bobbing motions with her head like she's gulping and trying to get something down her throat? She is roughly 3 years old.

Please, any insight would be appreciated.

I'm sorry about your hen.

When is the last time she laid an egg?
Have you felt her crop to see if it's emptying overnight? Looked inside the beak for canker, sores or lesions?
The head bobbing sounds like she has a crop problem, so you will want to investigate that further.

Tail down with unsteady gate, I would also feel the abdomen for bloat/swelling or feeling of fluid. While you are examining her look for any signs of lice/mites (might as well give her a good going over)

Photos of her and her poop may be helpful.
Let us know how she's doing.

Thanks for your reply! It’s odd; I checked on her today, and she was hustling and bustling about as energetic as ever. Her tail was up, and she wasn’t wobbling anymore. I’m not sure if this means she made a speedy recovery from whatever mysterious thing was going on. I felt her crop, and it feels and looks normal. I tried to get a pic, but she appeared well today. Thanks for your help.
