My rooster has started to cough a bit and if you listen when he breathes he rattles like a person with bronchitis. I am starting him on Duramycin from TSC, how long do I keep him on this. Package says 7 days, have been told this is too long . Little help please

Please make sure he is separated from the others! If it is contagious, you don't want the whole flock with it. Treat and feed him last to try to prevent exposing the others to his illness.

Is he eating and drinking well? How old is he? Nasal discharge? How's his eyes?

Have you introduced any new chickens into your flock lately? Do you show them? Has anyone that has chickens been to your place lately? If so, how is their flock? Have they had ANY respiratory illnesses within their flock within the last few months?

Continue the antibiotic for at least the amount of time on the pkg! Sometimes longer if the chicken hasn't improved, and sometimes they need a different antibiotic. Sometimes it's viral and antibiotics do NOTHING to help!

I use molasses (about two or three tbsp) and a teaspoon of cinnamon in a gallon of drinking water to cure things like this. I really don't know why but it works every time. I give it to the whole flock. If it is bad I separate the ill ones and treat them seperately.
I also use this trick for loose stools and use molasses only for new chicks so they don't get messy bottoms. Works well.
