Sorry I am new to the forum and hope I am posting this correctly

My Rhode Island Red who is about 9 months old has been ill for about 5 days now. When I first found her I thought she was egg bound as she showed signs of paralysis had trouble standing and her wings where extended down. I separated her from the flock and tried a warm bath to see if that would help her but no luck. My next step was to check for an egg and try to give it a little help along but to my surprise there was no egg inside her. Over the next couple of days she seems to be a little stronger but wont eat and is only drinking water. Her croup is soft so that is not impacted and I am at total loss as she does not have any obvious signs of disease. I car very much for my chickens and truly want to do the best I can for her and the cost of a vet is far too high in my location.

so sorry to hear about your sick hen. could she have eaten something bad or poisonous? is she still having trouble with her balance? if she's only drinking water, maybe you can add some avian vitamins and a bit of sugar for energy.

best of luck, lynn

Good new my girl seems to have come back around and was full of energy yesterday and eating well as well as giving herself a dust bath in our flower bed. It seems that adding Pedialyte to her water gave her the boost she needed. Today she spent the day with the flock and after a short pecking order challenge with a couple of hens she has settled right back in without a hitch. No idea what brought this on but I'm glad it is over and only hope she continues to do well.
