Sick chicken

Pinkaboo..

As she has a snotty ( a word I hate actually ) nose..then I would just go with the medication your Vet prescribed...it is for a respiratory problem...which should clear up within five days or so from the date you started treatment... I suggest you do not add any further treatment as yet..the antibiotic needs to work without any additional treatment.

I do so understand that you are worried but any further intervention at this stage may only complicate the issues...you appear to have a good Vet...go with their prognosis...!

Kathy ( casportpony ) gives wonderful, sound advice...don't give your sick chicken Ibuprofen...

Ok no ibroprofen
I'm worried about just adding antibiotic to the water and not knowing for sure they have had the full dose, my husband thinks just add to water and let them get on with it
I want to have measured dose for the three with symptoms
Its strange this afternoon when the other two became ill they looked awful with the eyes and Nasal discharge(suzie)
I thought they would die , but now the eyes look ok, they are in the dinning room in boxes, I've given them water and some apple sauce and although their breathing is bad its not as bad as earlier
I'm going to bring them into the living room later and sleep on the sofa( can't fit three in bed with me)
The faverolles hasn't left the living room, she's snoring away on the sofa in her cat carrier

Right I need to make 400 vodka shots for a charity event at the weekend( why do I volunteer for these things) I also have a table plan to make and I said I'd waitress! I don't think I will if chickens are ill
My daughter and her husband are coming this weekend, she's just found out she's pregnant( my first grandchild) I feel like I should keep the chickens away from her just incase
Pregnancy has changed so much, no coffee , no soft cheese, no eggs no seafood no pate! Obviously no alcohol or cigarettes I can understand but the others seem very over the top

Yikes...! Your life is very full at the moment...maybe you should have a vodka shot and relax..so much happening for you...!

It will take time for the antibiotics to kick in and show the results you are looking for...it takes time for illness to show and it takes even more time to rid them of whatever it is that ails them...you are doing all that you can to help them and they could be in no better hands right now...

Hope you all have a good night..trust your chicks will show even more improvement by the morning...!

Thanks suzie
I have M.E, and sadly alcohol doesn't agree with me, not that I drank much before I became ill.
We are all settled in the living room, its like a sleepover , the chickens may be snoring the loudest now but just wait till I get going! According to my other half I'm terrible

Just hope we all sleep!
Night x

My other half says I snore too...just about to go to bed and see if he is snoring .....!

Sleep well if you can surrounded by your chicks...hope Marmite is doing well...he is so cute!

Marmite is great him and his little buddy honey the pekin chick( who might be a cockerel too)
They just stick together all the time
Very sociable too
Little darlings I love them to bits

Not much sleep the cats decided to join in the sleep over
Bertha must be feeling better she's helping me type this!
They all seem improved a bit, eating ok, drinking ok
Still snuffely and snotty( sorry suzie)
But think they are on the mend

Plus I've got the antibiotics in the water for the other chickens
Feel like I'm neglecting my chicks a bit( and the house!)
But I just want them happy and healthy again

Improvement

The two Marans picked up very quickly and are back with the others
None of the other 10 became ill

Bertha the faverolles didn't improve, she started getting lots of phlegm in her mouth
I rang the vet who prescribed something to break down the phlegm
And a new antibiotic( this was Friday)

I've felt my husband left me to cope alone trying to nurse a very sick chicken, look after other chickens
Sort the house for my daughters visit this weekend and help do stuff for a local charity event
He just went out everyday helping set up the event.

Friday I snapped, got in the car and didn't come back, found a hotel but had no way to contact my daughter
Who apparently turned up and went home again, to about 300 miles away
Anyway I came home today and think we have sorted ourselves out and Bertha seems to be on the mend
Its a bank holiday Monday so can't get her new meds till tues
Plus I've ordered her a chicken diaper from USA
I think she's going to be a house chicken ; )

Pinkaboo..

I have been there too...better to get away and spend time out of a situation when we are about to explode...apparently I can cut a hedge with my tongue when I get a temper on!

Hope this all resolves itself for you and your Husband...

Well, how are the chicks faring ???? Hope all gets better for you all soon...

Suzie

Hi suzie
Chickens are doing so well now, just need the odd nose blowing( which isn't easy with a chicken)
My new walk in coop is here, just painting it and we have laid a concrete floor
Can't wait to be able to use it, I think they will love it.
I'm glad a took time out the break helped and my other half did well with the chickens
Even kept Bertha in the house with him!
