I am planning in buying some more ducklings. I am wanting some more blue swedish. If anyone has any and live near Knoxville that would be great. I will have to find a stuffed animal. I just hope it stops crying. I have chicks that's why I ask.

You might try a chick in with it, but be prepared to remove if it starts picking on the duckling or vise versa. Hopefully a stuffed animal will do the trick and comfort the lil one. also maybe it will let you cuddle it.

Thing is the chicks are older now as is the duckling and chicks are known to pick so just be ready to remove if you try it.

I hope U have an additional heat source for you duckling. Your room temp of 76 is way too cool for 2 or 3 week old ducklings. They should be kept at least at 90-95 degrees. I'm reading posts from folks all over the country that are buying baby chicks, ducks and game birds from hatchery's and having them arrive dead. I'm in southern Arizona and our high day time temp has been in the low to mid 80's and I feel that is still too cool to be shipping baby birds now. You can't blame the hatchery's or the P.O.'s, its just too early for chicks to be shipped in the mail, especially in northern states. Good Luck with your little duck.

90-95* is way too warm for ducklings that are 3weeks old. too high temps can also kill.

I'm thinking with all you have shared about this duckling especially about it being so much smaller, there is a syndrome called Faliure to Thrive, it happens when the duckling/chick just doesn't grow or thrive and wastes away. I'm thinking this is probably what happened to your duckling, and there is really nothing that you could have done to prevent it. it is just something that happens. I start my ducklings if i have them under brooder light instead of mama duckk at 85* first week and drop that temp down by 5* each week there after till fully feathered and not needing heat anymore. Duckling don't need the higher heat that chicks do.

What have you done for it/ did you give it a stuffed animal? if you don't have one take a sock and put a wash cloth inside and give that to it. then turn the light down very low and leave, but listen hopefully it will settle down with the sock. did you try to hold it at all. you might be able to lightly wrap it in a towel and hold it close to your heart, they find comfort in hearing a heart beat. When i had my only duckling in the hosue I would take a towel put him up close to my shoulder where he could hear my heart and place the towel loosely over him covering him like his mama would do if he was under her feathers, he would settle right down.

If you can find time to just sit with it calmly with a towel draped over it that may settle it down. you have to remember it had a buddy and now it doesn't, much cause for stress. My duckling was with me from the beginning without any other duckling so it didn't miss having another duck around.

Your room is very warm, I brooded chicks in my house last year at this time with my room temps at 68 with a heat lamp and they did fine.
