I'm looking for any advice or help with a sick Canadian goose. He/she (not sure yet) is about 1.5 months old and suddenly is unable to walk. He's eating and drinking, but cannot get up. The other 6 geese are fine. He acts sick as well, meaning he tucks his head back into his feathers. The first time I noticed it, he was still walking, but very awkwardly. Now he can't really get up at all. Poor guy! Makes me sad! Anybody?

I need to expand on this. It appears that his legs are paralyzed. When we floated him in some water, he canted to the right. He eats, drinks, and is very alert. WTH?

He is either injured or despirately needs some protein in his diet...Please feed him and put in secure place to rest where he is not hurt!

Thank you. I will tell my hubbie about the protein part, although the other 7 are thriving and happy. We just put him into a baby pool filled with water, and he seemed to like it and used his legs a bit. Maybe we should get him enrolled in some water aerobics.

Try adding some niacin to his diet! If they (meaning ducks and geese) are on food formulated for chickens, the vitamin b levels won't be right. Also, some medicated feeds can cause paralysis in waterfowl.

I've heard brewers yeast is a very good thing to sprinkle on their food to increase their niacin intake.

It could be a vitamin deficiency, particularly niacin. Not all birds will display symptoms at the same times or to the same degrees. Either provide them with a vitamin and mineral supplement in their drinking water or add brewers yeast to their food.

I have this problem right now with one, I think after I added some cracked corn from the feed mill , they have been ion regular Goose flock feed and plenty of grass. He is sitting in the hutch corner, will give him some fresh grass

It cannot be nutritional as they graze on fresh grass and ear flock raiser, it has to be that cracked corn from the feed mill, who knows what chemicals I will get some organic corn for the winter , but never feed mill corn
