I have a roughly 3 week old gosling who suddenly can’t walk or move. He first had outstretched legs and a few minutes later he couldn’t keep his head up. I have a picture provided where he nearly appears dead. However, when I held him he moved slightly, his heart was beating quickly, and his eyes moved. He may pass tonight, but if this is due to an illness, does anyone know what it might be and how I can keep it from spreading in my flock? I can provide more details if needed.

Was this completely sudden or were there any symptoms like wobbling, seeming more tired, or just “off” beforehand?

What feed is on?

There are a few things that could cause this. My first thought is a nutritional deficiency, lack of enough Bs, A, and E vitamins could cause this, it’s bery similar to stargazing symptoms.

Another possibility would be a bacterial infection called spondylitis, or botulism, another kind of bacterial infection.

Another possibility is some sort of neurological trauma.

Finally there’s lead or zinc poisoning.
