Sick Hen and need some help !!!!!

Poor girl-- do you think she could have gotten tangled with a predator, and got away and hunkered down for a few days? She may have an infection, if so. With many predators (from household cats to raccoons) all it takes is a non-lethal scratch or bite for a bird to develop a nasty systemic infection.

The water I have been squirting in to her beak to help her wash everything out as there seems to be a lot of snot build up in there so what I am using is one of them oversized injectors for when someone is cooking a rump roast and they inject the spices ,,,,, well I got it at Wal-Mart and I cut the tip off in the shop with the grinder then smoothed it on a sharping stone to remove all the burs so I could put a short section 1" of tubing on the end ...... So mostly she is taking in what she needs to clear herself but at the same time I do not want to hurt her .........

Actually this was my first thought as her back feathers were all matted with what I now believe is dried snot but at first it took more then a day to get her cleaned up so I cold wash her up again and then again blow dry her feathers clean before I could clearly check out her skin but I haven't found any lacerations or discolored skin but she is moving like a very sore chicken so I do believe she tangled with something but it did not get a good whack at her .....

The tube needs to be longer than 1", it needs to go from the syring into her crop.

I see! My concern is, if she tangled with something, depending on what it was, even a small scratch or bite can cause an infection.

As long as it does not cause her stress or seem to harm her, cleaning her nose off seems like a good thing to continue.

All of your other chickens are okay, right? No symptoms from any of them, such as sneezing/bubbles around the nose, mouth or eyes? No clicking sounds when they breathe?

In all my looking I still haven't found any wounds ......

Now I am cleaning her nose several time a day so she can breath and eat but she is not eating or drinking on her own yet .....

And all the other Ducks Chickens Geese & genies are doing alright for now and no wet snouts yet but the weather did turn cold and windy last night and it is down in the mid 60's right now with the wind chill ......

I purchased this at a medical supply store as the local feed store
did not have what I needed and the total price was just under $ 5
US Dollars ........

It made it so easy to put any food or liquid in her gullet !!!!!!!

Now she is doing so much better then she was on Wednesday
not really doing much other then standing or taking a nap
