WE had a run in with coyote(s) last week now we have a sick hen.

She is breathing heavy. Cold comb and waddle. Not moving around. Not eating or drinking. She tends to lay very big eggs. She is trying to hide.

Ideas?

Doesn't seem to be straining like she is trying to lay. She is a noisy layer though. She did lay yesterday.

She seems to be eating a bit at the moment so perhaps had something in her throat or something? Daughter says she seems fine now.

Could she have been injured by the coyote?

Is her poop looking normal? Have the birds been wormed and if so, when and with what?

In any case, extra good nutrition right now may help. If she hasn't had V&E in water in awhile a day or two would be good. (Avia Charge 2000 alternatively, can order on line). On a day when you don't have that stuff in water you can put Bragg's ACV in the water for a day. Can give her a scrambled egg, some fresh plain yogurt (mine won't eat the yogurt solo but enjoy it if I cut fruit up and mix it in (e.g. cherries, berries...).

Rescue Remedy for stress.

I hope she'll be alright.
