Hi, I have a 5 month old hen, I believe she is a blue laced red wynodotte (sp?). Went to feed the flock today and noticed she was not looking too well. It rained hard yesterday and I thought her dirty looking appearance was just from the weather. I removed her from the rest and noticed shes letharghic and her vent area was very dirty and poopy with all her feathers matted together. Nothing seems to be protruding from her vent area but it does look like she trying to push. She will not eat but is drinking alot. She didnt want a babyfood/mash/vitamin mixture of food I made her. I've given her some water with ACV and vitamins. She sucks the water right down. I gave her a warm bath for about 15 minutes or so and then let her out because she was drinking the bath water.. Can someone please help me figure out whats wrong with her? I'm not even sure if she is laying yet, alothugh I think she did lay one small egg a few days ago. I have 12 hens, not all are laying yet so I'm not positive. Any information will be much appreicated!! Thanks - she's weak so hopefully I can figure this out quickly!
I just found out why her butt is poopy and dirty - its because shes been pooping while sitting - she just pooped basically all over herself while drinking... Any ideas?
