I need some advice. My girl
Has moulted a few times in the past three months and now she's sounding little hoarse and cannot fully her usual shout to her little friend it sounds like deeper and breaky. She's eating drinking and doing her normal behaviour. I have separated her and brought her in for the night into a indoor coop kept in a outhouse which is warmer then the current outside. Weather has been really wet cold and frosty every morning for the last week. She sounded fine yesterday but today when I got in from work she sounded hoarse. I am keeping a close eye on her. Any advice to keep her strong if she has got a respiratory problem ?
Hi I also had 1 of my hens sound like she was hoarse I went out and got some VetRx and rubbed some on her beak and let it soak down into her nostril.I'm not sure if u ever used VetRx but it smells just like Vicks .Just take the little bottle and put into some warm water to get it warm and then take and pour just alil into her nostril. This stuff works really well and my hen is all well again :)

Electrolytes (like an athlete drinks Gatorade or an equivalent) are available at feed store in small 3 packs of powder ($2.99) that you mix with water. It's called save-a-chick.

An alternative is UNFLAVORED pedialyte which is in the baby food aisle of any grocery store in quart size squarish plastic bottles. In human babies it is given to a child to maintain hydration during illnesses such as fever and vomiting. An imbalance of electrolytes due to dehydration can cause heart rhythm irregularities, seizure, and kidney failure, among other life threatening complications.
