Sick hen

She is nothing but a skeleton with feathers. There is nothing at all in her crop. I just checked her vent and it very dry and looks like there is a poop plug in there that I can’t wash out. Also there are two poop balls attached to her butt feathers that are white and hard.

If she refuses to eat at all, and if this is a reproductive issue, there isn't much that can be done outside of putting her out of her misery. Is there a vet near you that could see her?

I checked on her a couple of minutes ago and she was dead. I had the eggs ready but it was too late. Thank you so much for you guys concern and help. She was a good hen. I am going to miss her.

Sorry for your loss. If you keep her body cool, wrapped in 2 garbage bags, you can send it to your state vet for a necropsy. Some of us do our own at home, to look at the abdominal organs and take some pictures to post here for opinions. Reproductive problems or cancer sound like a possible problem.

I'm so sorry. I second eggcessive. Speaking from experience, I would have a necropsy done incase you later notice another hen is sick (and then wish you had a necropsy the first go around). That way you will know if it was something contagious and how to save her. Some states do them for free.
