Hello!
I have a French Moran, two years old, who isn't on top of her game. Sort of hunched. For over a month, she's been low key. I thought it was a heavy molt. A couple of days ago, she was in the nesting box. I picked her up and she is very thin. And cold as it has been in the 20s and 30s here.

I took her to the vet who looked her over. She weighs--eek--a little over a pound. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her. Covered her with python dust. (Ugh.) So I know she doesn't have mites. (The vet saw none but erred on the side of caution?) So now the hen is inside with food and water that she only seems to touch when I am there to hold it up for her. She is very wobbly on her feet. Mostly just sits quietly. I am not quite sure what to do. I don't want her to get lonely or sad. She has oyster shells, and Flock pellets. Water. Her eyes are open for the most part so she doesn't have that closed-eyes-leave-me-alone look.

My priority is for her not to suffer. Others in the house would like her out of the house as she is blocking the entrance in her dog cage.

Thanks!

Did the vet run a fecal float to see if worms and/or coccidiosis are part of the problem?
What care and treatment plan did the vet advise?

Crop emptying overnight?

Hopefully she will start to improve with you giving her supportive care. Encourage her to eat her normal feed, but you can also entice her with egg, meat, fish. Small tidbits of soft fruit, etc. Hydration first, then food.
Hens can suffer from numerous issues as they get older. Reproductive disorders can be common.

Thank you for your suggestions. Vet just said she couldn't see anything wrong. And no suggested care other than to bring her in so she doesn't use up her energy staying warm Crop seems okay. I'll just keep the visits, water and food going and cross my fingers... Thank you again!
